The Guided tours

Guided visits designed for individual visitors can be planned by the Museum (see the “Agenda” section of the website) but guided tours are also available to groups all year long upon reservation. Current guided tours are designed according to three different topics.

Guided tours of the Museum

An armed scythe, a washing machine, a butter blender, a farrier kit, a Linotype machine... “Stories of objects” will make you discover the life of the French back in the 19th and the 20th centuries with 16 illustrative objects.

Average duration: 60 minutes.

The five senses’ guided tour

“When grandpa and grandma were young”

“My family’s life in the 20th century”

“The 20th century: a time of transformations”

“19th - 20th centuries, one and a half century of mutations”

Of course you will find objects in this museum, but also scents, flavours, images, feelings and sounds! In one visit or in five modules, each sense is another way to discover our collections from a different perspective.

The visit is built upon a booklet of the objects that were part of French daily life at the time of our grandparents.

And visitors need to roll up their sleeves too! They will wash the laundry by hand, type a text on a typewriter and write with a quill.

You will have a booklet for this visit as well. It stresses the evolution of our way of living in the 20th century.

And again visitors have to roll up their sleeves: they will wash the laundry by hand, type a text on a typewriter and write with a quill.

With a booklet the guide will show you the great mutations of the French society in the 20th century.

The participants will have to put their mobile phones, tablets and computers away to enjoy the typewriter and the quill!

Based on a booklet, the visit focuses on the affirmation of an industrial society and the following emergence of a post-industrial society.

Once again the participants will have to put their mobile phones, tablets and computers away to enjoy the typewriter and the quill!

Guided tours of the Maison Mercier

The titanic restoration works that have been done on the Maison Mercier are enough of a reason for you to visit it. Find out about its history since the 16th century and read between the lines of its wood frames. The tour will also tell you about the global rehabilitation works that have been done.

Visite guidée hors-les-murs The outside-the-walls guided tour: “The inhabitants of Saint Martin take the floor”

Three different paths complete each other in this visit. These are walks through the three hamlets of the village: the Bourg, Vassonville and Saint Martin Plage. Follow them at the rhythm of the inhabitants’ speeches. Their records will invite you to imagine how life was in the village over the last century.

Average duration: 90 minutes for each walk.

Average distance: less than one kilometre from the first milestone. For walkers the Museum is located a few metres away from the first step of the Bourg walk, 1.5 kilometres away from the start of the Vassonville walk and 2.5 kilometers away from the Saint Martin Plage walk.
